An announcement by the NSW State Government on Monday, 23rd May 2016 saw an extra $29 million out of the Regional Tourism Infrastucture Fund granted to the Port of Eden Breakwater Wharf Extension project.
The project is now fully funded with a total budget of $44 million:
- $32 million State (Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund – Restart NSW)
- $10 million Federal (Community Development Grants Program)
- $2 million Local (Bega Valley Shire Council)
The extra funding ensures the extension of the wharf by 95 metres, installation of berthing dolphins and landside bollards and dredging to a depth of 10.5m. This will allow ships up to 325m to pull up alongside (weather dependent), thereby ensuring the future viability of the Port of Eden.
The building and dredging works are expected to start in August 2017 with an expected completion date of February 2019, midway during the 2018/19 Cruise Season.
